Glossary

A glossary of psychometrics and DISC terms: definitions of the key concepts behind T8® reports, personality assessment and predictive recruitment in business.

Big Five (Big 5)
The Big Five model (also called the five-factor model or "Big 5") is a scientific framework that organizes personality into five broad dimensions, generally labeled openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and emotional stability (sometimes "neuroticism"). It underpins many contemporary questionnaires: each dimension can be broken down into finer facets to describe a profile with greater precision.
Credit
On a SaaS platform, a credit is often a unit of usage or an entitlement consumed to produce a deliverable or access a feature: for example, generating a report, activating a module or exporting an analysis.
DISCpro™
DISCpro™ is the professional version of the DISC model, developed by Tennessee Veldeman. In particular, it introduces the concepts of adaptability and tension zone, replacing the "natural style / adapted style" pairing often used in classic approaches. This repositioning aims to clarify observable behavior without locking it into a binary reading that can create confusion or raise ethical questions in certain recruitment contexts. DISCpro™ remains a decision-support tool to be interpreted with perspective and alongside the other information available.
Questionnaire
A psychometric questionnaire is the full set of items (questions, statements to rate, forced choices, and so on) presented to the respondent under standardized administration. The answers are aggregated according to defined rules to produce scores, profiles or indices. The quality of the questionnaire (clarity, length, equivalence, validation) has a direct impact on the reliability and validity of the reports generated afterwards.
Report
The report is the document or deliverable produced by a psychometric analysis: it translates the questionnaire results into an operational reading (text, charts, archetypes, recommendations) for decision-makers, managers or candidates. On T8®, each type of report focuses on a specific business question while drawing on a shared measurement foundation.
T8®
T8® is a psychometric analysis method created by Tennessee Veldeman. It translates professional behaviors into eight archetypes while preserving a unique, specific profile for each report. The approach is both fine-grained (at the level of traits and nuances) and categorical (a synthetic reading through archetypes). It draws on 50 personality facets to describe how a person functions with precision.
Psychometric test
A psychometric test is a standardized instrument that measures psychological traits or functions (personality, cognitive abilities, motivations, relational styles, and so on) according to defined instructions and scoring, in a reproducible way. When well designed, it relies on validation work (reliability, structure, links with external criteria) to limit bias and interpret results with caution. In a professional context, it complements human judgment: it replaces neither an interview nor a final decision, but helps structure recruitment, development or decision-making with objective indicators.
Predictive recruitment
Predictive recruitment refers to a hiring approach that aims to assess a candidate's ability to succeed sustainably in a role, beyond the resume and technical skills. This method draws in particular on the analysis of behaviors, motivations, soft skills and personality traits. It helps improve the fit between a candidate and a role, reduce hiring mistakes, anticipate professional behaviors and make HR decisions more secure. T8® reports analyze behavioral dynamics and soft skills to help companies better identify the profiles aligned with their needs.
Soft skills in the workplace
Soft skills are the behavioral, relational and emotional competencies used in a professional context. They complement technical skills (hard skills). Examples: communication, leadership, adaptability, stress management, listening, teamwork. They play a major role in collaboration, management, team cohesion, engagement and collective performance. The T8® method helps identify and analyze behavioral dynamics and soft skills in a professional setting.
Cognitive biases
Cognitive biases are unconscious thought mechanisms that influence our judgments and decisions. They can undermine objectivity in recruitment, evaluation, management and professional relationships. Common examples: confirmation bias, the halo effect, affinity bias, stereotypes and first impressions. Understanding cognitive biases helps make more balanced and objective decisions in business. Structured psychometric tools bring more objective analysis to human decisions.
Managerial potential
Managerial potential refers to a person's ability to lead, motivate, structure and develop a team. It does not depend solely on technical expertise or seniority. The dimensions often assessed: leadership, communication, decision-making, relational intelligence, managing tensions and adaptability. Identifying managerial potential helps prepare internal moves, secure promotions and improve the quality of management. The T8® Leader and T8® Performance reports analyze the behavioral dynamics related to management and leadership.
Interpersonal communication
Interpersonal communication refers to exchanges between individuals in a professional or personal context. It includes the way a message is conveyed, listening, emotional reactions, communication styles and relational behaviors. High-quality communication fosters cooperation, trust, smooth exchanges and fewer tensions. The T8® method helps better understand behavioral styles and communication modes in order to improve professional relationships.
Employee engagement
Employee engagement refers to an employee's level of involvement, motivation and attachment to their company and their work. An engaged employee is generally more committed, more motivated, more stable and more effective. The factors that influence engagement: quality of management, recognition, meaning at work, human relationships and the fit between the person and their environment. A better understanding of behaviors and motivations helps improve talent alignment and team engagement.
Team cohesion
Team cohesion refers to the quality of relationships, collaboration and alignment among the members of a group. A cohesive team operates with trust, complementarity, smooth communication and shared goals. Cohesion has a direct impact on collective performance, engagement, adaptability and the quality of collaboration. T8® Team analyzes collective dynamics, synergies and tension zones within a team.
Leadership
Leadership refers to a person's ability to influence, unite and move a group toward a common goal. Leadership is not limited to a hierarchical position. The dimensions of leadership: vision, communication, decision-making, influence, relational intelligence and team management. Leadership plays a key role in motivation, collective performance, company culture and change management. The T8® Leader and T8® Performance reports analyze behaviors related to leadership and managerial dynamics.
Team mapping
Team mapping consists of analyzing the behavioral profiles of a group in order to understand its collective dynamics. It helps identify collective strengths, complementarities, tension zones, relational risks and behavioral balances. Team mapping helps managers better distribute roles, ease communication, strengthen cohesion and improve collaboration. T8® Team generates collective analyses and behavioral maps tailored to teams and organizations.
MBTI
The MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is a popular personality model based on 16 psychological types. It classifies individuals along four dimensions: introversion / extraversion, sensing / intuition, thinking / feeling, judging / perceiving. The MBTI is widely used in personal development, team workshops, communication and some professional settings. It is often criticized for its lack of scientific robustness compared with models such as the Big Five. The Big Five is regarded as the most internationally validated personality model.
